How to Potty Train Your Dog

Potty training your new dog can be a pain, but the most important thing to practice is patience and consistency. Here are some steps to potty train your dog:

  1. Set a schedule: Take your dog outside at regular intervals, such as after eating, waking up, and before bedtime. This will help your dog learn when it's time to go potty.

  2. Choose a designated potty area: Take your dog to the same spot in your yard or nearby park every time they need to go potty. This will help them associate that area with going to the bathroom.

  3. Use a cue word: Use a specific cue word like “potty” or phrase “use it or potty time” every time you take your dog to their designated potty area. This will help them understand what you expect of them.

  4. Supervision: Keep an eye on your dog and watch for signs that they need to go potty, such as sniffing around or circling. Take them outside immediately when you see these signs.

  5.  Reward and praise: When your dog goes potty in their designated area, give them plenty of praise and a treat. This will help them understand that they have done the right thing.

  6. Consistency: This is the biggest key, be consistent with taking your dog out at the same times every day and using the same cue word. This will help them learn quickly.

  7. Clean up accidents: If your dog has an accident inside, clean it up immediately and use a cleaner specifically made for pet urine. This will help remove any trace of the smell which might attract them again to use the same spot.

It's important to be patient and consistent when potty training your dog. Some dogs may take longer to potty train than others, but with time and patience, most dogs can be successfully potty trained.
